Notice to food joint operator for blocking drain

The Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) has issued a notice to the operator of a fast food shop for blocking a drain by allegedly encroaching it.

The matter came to the light when Mayor Suman Bahamani was inspecting the drain from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk to Paper Mill Gate on Workshop Road.

During the inspection, the drain was found blocked at many places either due to encroachment or garbage accumulation. The mayor instructed Chief Sanitary Inspector Vinod Beniwal to start the work of cleaning the drain. On her instructions, a notice was issued to the fast food shop operator for encroachment.

The mayor instructed the officials to get the drain cleaned and make it encroachment free. Bahamani, who conducted a surprise inspection of the drain built on Workshop Road, was accompanied by CSI Vinod Beniwal, Sanitation Inspector Pradeep Dahiya and other officials of the MCYJ. The mayor said it the drain could not be cleaned as the slabs kept on it had been encroached.

“The drain has been clogged with mud and dirt. I personally asked shopkeepers to remove the encroachments,” the mayor said.

She said the municipal corporation was working to make twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri clean and beautiful.

As per information, during the inspection it was also found that some people throw mattresses, quilts, sacks, bags, wood and other solid waste in drains causing blockage.

Besides, it was found that some people have encroached upon the drains, hindering the water flow.

“I appeal to people not to throw garbage in drains, open spaces and at empty plots. The people should put trash in the MCYJ vehicles that go from door-to-door for garbage collection,” added the mayor.
