The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a powerful platform for character building and social responsibility among students, Haryana Minister for Public Health Engineering and PWD Ranbir Gangwa said on Wednesday.

Addressing the cultural event Bharatiya Sanskriti Sangam at Guru Gorakhnath Government College on the 57th Foundation Day of NSS, Gangwa said the organisation was not merely about service, but about nurturing values of cooperation, discipline and dedication.

“This organisation not only teaches youth about community service but also awakens in them a consciousness for national and public interest,” he said, warning that the growing lure of drugs and crime among youth was a serious challenge. “Institutions like NSS are guiding students towards a positive direction.”

Gangwa also visited an art and craft exhibition by NSS volunteers depicting the cultural diversity of Indian states. He praised their creativity, calling it a remarkable display of unity in diversity.

College principal Dr Vivek Saini presided, while NSS programme officers coordinated the event. Students pledged to strengthen the NSS and uphold cultural unity.
