In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old woman in Nuh was shot dead by robbers today for resisting their attempt to rape her.
Four unidentified robbers targeted the woman and her husband when they were watering their fields in the foothills of the Aravallis at night. The robbers attempted to rape her when they realised she was not wearing any ornaments they could rob.
When she kicked one of them trying to flee, they shot her in the head and escaped. The police have filed an FIR and begun an investigation on the complaint of the woman’s husband. While the incident has left the entire Mewat area outraged, local panchayats have issued an advisory to women not to venture out in the evening even if they are accompanied by men. According to the FIR registered at Bichhore police station, the victim was a mother of four. Her husband Inayat in his complaint has claimed that she was working with him in the fields at night when electricity is supplied for irrigation.
“Around 1.30 am today, two men came armed with a gun. Threatening to kill us, they asked us to hand over all that we had. I gave them my mobile and Rs 3,000. Then, they asked my wife to hand over her ornaments. She was not wearing any. By then, two more men came and began frisking her. She kept pleading with them to leave her alone. When they refused to do so, she hit one of them, and they shot her in the head. They threatened to kill me also, but I fled,” said Inayat in his complaint.
“The complainant has alleged that the woman was shot when the robbers tried to molest her. The body has been handed over to the family. We are trying to nab the accused,” said the Nuh police spokesperson.
