Karnal, August 6
The nursing staff of all government medical colleges across the state have announced to go on mass casual leave on Wednesday to press their demand, including upgrade of their rank from Group-C to Group-B. The nursing association said that if their demands were not met, they would go on indefinite strike. The nursing association of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC) staged a symbolic protest for nearly 15 minutes and said they would be on leave on Wednesday.
“Our cadre is of nursing officer and we are in group C, but as per our work and qualification, we should be in Group B. We are demanding an upgrade of rank from Group-C to Group-B,” said Suman Panwar, vice-president of association.
“We will go on mass casual leave from August 7. If our demands are not met, we will go on an indefinite strike. No work will be done by the nursing staff,” she added.
She highlighted the issue of shortage of nursing staff and said that there were nearly 150 regular nursing staff at the KCGMC against the demand of nearly 300.
