Congress MP from Rohtak, Deepender Hooda, on Saturday criticised the Haryana Government, alleging injustice towards the family of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar who allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Chandigarh on October 7.

“When a senior officer of ADGP rank cannot get justice under the BJP government, what can the common people expect? Every citizen who believes in humanity and the Constitution wants justice. Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done,” said Deepender Hooda while interacting with mediapersons at the residence of Congress leader Nahar Singh Sandhu.

He maintained that true justice means a fair investigation where the guilty are punished with the strictest possible action without any influence on the probe. “No innocent should be trapped and no guilty person should escape,” he said, questioning the government’s silence. “This government shows insensitivity because it was not formed on the basis of public sentiment,” he alleged. Before addressing the media, Hooda observed a two-minute silence to pray for the departed soul.

“The process of justice has been slow over the past few days. The family is not satisfied with the investigation so far. The family’s satisfaction represents the satisfaction of society and the nation,” he said. “The Dalit community and the entire country are watching — justice must be delivered swiftly and fairly. The government must ensure that the family gets justice without delay or interference. Till that happens, we will continue to fight at every level as a responsible Opposition.”

Commenting on the broader implications, Hooda said, “If a senior ADGP has been driven to take such an extreme step, imagine the pressure within the system. Allegations of caste discrimination, harassment and bias against senior law enforcement officers raise serious questions about the entire structure. When those responsible for delivering justice come under suspicion, the entire system loses credibility.”

He also pointed out the ongoing law and order issues in Karnal and criticised unfulfilled promises made to farmers and women during elections. “Farmers were promised Rs 3,100 per quintal for crops and women Rs 2,100 monthly. Now, farmers are struggling to get even the MSP, and women are burdened with conditions,” he said.

He said, “In the past 11 years, the BJP government has not only derailed Haryana’s development but also pushed the state’s politics onto a negative path. The Congress will continue to struggle for truth and change until Haryana sees real transformation.”
