Officers told to comply with SC order regarding stray dogs in Yamunanagar

Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta held a meeting with officials of various departments to ensure compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders regarding stray dogs.

The meeting was held in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad, who told the Deputy Commissioner that the municipal corporation had issued a tender for sterilisation and vaccination of stray dogs.

He said three dog shelters were to be constructed for sterilisation and vaccination in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.

“Two dog shelters are being constructed at Jagadhri ‘s Gulab Nagar and Ambala Road. One more shelter is still to be completed,” said Mahabir Parsad. He also told the Deputy Commissioner that he had held a meeting with officials of various departments a few days ago to comply with the Supreme Court’s orders regarding stray dogs.

“I directed the officials that public places such as government and private hospitals, educational institutions and railway stations and bus stands should be made stray dogs- free,” said Mahabir Parsad. He said officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department were instructed to form patrol teams, issue helpline numbers and install boards with helpline numbers at various locations. “Representatives from government and private hospitals, educational institutions, national highways, state highways and other major roads, bus stands, railway stations and other institutions were instructed to appoint nodal officers to identify dog population in their areas,” Mahabir Parsad said at the meeting. He said the municipal corporation was working in collaboration with the police, veterinary staff and Panchayati Raj Department officials to capture dogs in the municipal area. “Sterilisation and vaccination of dogs will reduce the increasing cases of dog bites in the city,” said Parsad.

Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta, while giving instructions to the representatives of all government and private hospitals, educational institutions, sports complexes, bus stands and other departments said all should appoint nodal officers in their respective institutions to control dogs.

“The officers of National Highways Authority of India and Public Works Department should identify the dogs roaming on the roads and send these to dog shelters. All officers should strictly follow the orders issued by the Supreme Court regarding dogs,” said Gupta. Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar, Sandeep Kumar from Haryana Roadways, Naresh Singh from Sports Department, Rishabh Goyal from the National Highways Authority of India and officers from other departments were present on the occasion.
