Official portal to report crop loss not working: Farmers
The district unit of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), a farmers’ body here, has claimed that the official portal for lodging complaints of damage to crops by the recent rain and hailstorm was not functional. A delegation of the district unit of the SKM submitted a memorandum to the DC here today.
Claiming that damage between 25 and 50 per cent had occurred in as many as 115 villages of the district, Mahender Singh Chauhan, spokesperson of the SKM here, said that farmers in the majority of affected villages are unable to lodge their claim on the official portal as it was not functioning properly.
He said as the affected farmers are unable to register their loss on the official website, they are at the risk of not getting any compensation as it has been seen in some earlier cases.
Citing the case of one Sant Ram Sharma, a farmer hailing from Bamnikhera village, he said Sharma was yet to get compensation for the damage to the crops that occurred in December 2023 and March 2024.
He said as the farmers submitted the memorandum regarding the matter to DC Dr Harish Kumar Vashist on Wednesday, they have been assured of action for providing relief to the affected farmers soon.
The administration is expected to depute officials of the Revenue Department for conducting a physical survey to assess the damage and submit the report for releasing the compensation, it is added.
