Officials told to give priority to works passed by Karnal Municipal Corporation House
A General House meeting of the Karnal Municipal Corporation was organised on Thursday under the chairmanship of Mayor Renu Bala Gupta, in which seven proposals were tabled, of them six were approved and one was kept pending. Besides, nine out of 11 out-of-agenda proposals were passed, while two remained pending.
Meanwhile, Gupta administered the oath of office to the three newly nominated councillors – Gaurav Nagpal, Umesh Procha, and Vishesh Verma.
Gupta instructed Corporation engineers and other officials to give priority to the projects approved by the General House. She emphasised preparing cost estimates and floating tenders promptly to provide better amenities to the citizens. She stressed the need for feasibility checks before initiating any work and urged officials to resolve the issues raised by the councillors without delay.
“Officials should prioritise the works passed by the House. They should also check feasibility before starting any work,” said the Mayor. The Mayor also instructed the officials to listen to the issues of all councillors and address them without any delay.
Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand directed officials to prioritise the execution of basic civic amenities, especially the supply of clean drinking water. He emphasised that development projects should only proceed after verifying their feasibility to prevent misuse of public funds. He further instructed that ward inspections must involve the respective councillors and said unauthorised dairies be shifted promptly to the Pingli project site.
Anand also called for urgent repair of malfunctioning streetlights, expediting dog sterilisation efforts and construction of a dog shelter to manage the stray dog population. He assured that a review of today’s meeting would be conducted in the next House session.
Reacting on an issue related to the installation of CCTV cameras in a colony, Anand asked the MC Commissioner Vaishali Sharma to send a proposal in this regard to the Karnal police to finalise the best locations. He also sought a report from Karnal Smart City Ltd GM on the status of CCTV cameras. “Officials have been directed to ensure the functioning of all streetlights,” said Anand.
Sharma informed the House that the corporation was continuously working to enhance the city’s development, beautification and cleanliness. Tenders would soon be issued for the approved projects. She highlighted that progress on the ongoing development work was being closely monitored and directed the officials to ensure timely completion. Executive Engineers have been granted financial powers up to Rs 1 lakh for essential repairs and emergency tasks. She warned of strict action against negligence in development work.
Sharma also said the formation of a special team to boost property tax and rent recovery. She said Rs 15 crore was recovered in the last two months. Regular taxpayers would be honoured with appreciation certificates. Besides, a call centre would be set up at the ICCC to remind citizens to pay their property tax. She also reiterated that illegal cattle dairies would soon be relocated from city limits.
