Keeping in view the rising cases of cyber fraud, Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya has directed officials to put up posters on government buildings and at Common Service Centres (CSCs) in the district to raise awareness about cybercrimes. The initiative aims at educating the public on the deceptive tactics used in modern cyber frauds, helping people avoid falling victim to such crimes.

Speaking on the matter, Dahiya emphasised that cyber fraud could only be prevented through heightened awareness. “The district administration is focused on increasing awareness among the people to ensure they can identify and avoid such frauds,” he asserted.

The DC also mentioned that the administration was seriously considering organising workshops at the Gram Panchayat level to further educate citizens. Additionally, similar workshops will be held in collaboration with bank officials to help people understand the ways to avoid financial fraud.

Earlier, Dahiya while addressing the people at a workshop held here to observe Safe Internet Day pointed out that awareness was the biggest weapon to avoid cybercrime.

“While using the Internet, it’s important not to click on any tempting or suspicious post. Awareness about Internet usage needs to be heightened. One should avoid rushing when online, as hurrying increases the chances of making mistakes, which can lead to significant losses. A wrong click, made in haste, can make anyone a victim of cybercrime,” said the DC.

During the session, District Information Officer Amit Bansal presented a detailed PowerPoint on how to avoid cybercrime, emphasising small yet crucial precautions. The cyber experts from the district police's cyber cell also participated in the workshop. ASI Deepak and Mandeep delivered an engaging and informative presentation to the attendees.

An interactive session was also held, where the participants had the opportunity to ask questions regarding Internet security. The DC addressed all queries, providing valuable insights on how to protect oneself from cyber threats and the immediate steps to be taken if one becomes a victim of cybercrime.
