Karnal officials told to set up permanent checkposts to curb illegal mining

Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh directed officials to take strict action against those involved in illegal mining activities across the district. While chairing a meeting of the District Task Force Committee (Mining) at his office on Wednesday, the DC emphasised the need for coordinated efforts to curb illegal mining effectively.

Singh instructed the police, mining, and enforcement departments to work together and set up permanent checkpoints to stop illegal mining operations and intercept overloaded vehicles involved in the activity. “No negligence will be tolerated in this matter,” he said, directing swift action.

Officials from the Enforcement Department were asked to intensify their monitoring and increase field activity to keep a close watch on suspicious sites. “Wherever complaints of illegal mining come, Mining Department officials must work in coordination with the police to take prompt action, register FIRs, and ensure penalties are imposed,” he added.

Referring specifically to Chandrao, Garhpur, and Kalsaura villages in Indri, which have seen repeated complaints of illegal mining, Singh directed the officials to take immediate and effective steps to stop such activities. He also emphasised the need for constant surveillance in these high-risk areas.

Mining Officer Niranjan Lal informed the committee that continuous checking drives are being conducted across the district. As many as 12 vehicles involved in illegal mining have been seized, and fines amounting to around Rs 28 lakh have been imposed. Besides, 18 FIRs have been registered and 66 challans issued.
