Old-age home in Karnal nears completion
In a significant step towards the welfare of senior citizens, the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) is constructing a state-of-the-art old-age home in Sector-32 in the city, which is nearing completion. This facility, being developed under the Smart City project, is set to provide a comfortable, safe and engaging environment to the elderly.
At an estimated cost of Rs 9 crore, the multi-storey structure is designed to accommodate up to 128 residents. It comprises 43 rooms and eight dormitories, offering both private and shared living arrangements. Officials confirmed that the construction agency is currently giving final touches to the project.
“Under the Smart City project, this old-age home is being constructed in Sector-32. The project is at its final stage. The construction company is giving the final touches and we are hopeful it will be completed shortly,” said Dharambir, Superintendent Engineer (SE), HSVP.
Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh recently visited the project and reviewed the progress. He also directed the construction agency to complete it with all facilities.
The layout plan includes a multifunctional basement area for workshops, events and group activities. The ground floor will feature a statue of Lord Ganesh, along with various amenities such as a TV and game room, kitchen, dining area, nursing station, visitor room, office, 13 rooms, two dormitories, informal seating, indoor games zone and a newspaper/magazine stand, the SE added.
The first and second floors have similar facilities — rooms, informal lounges, game zones and reading areas — to promote interaction and leisure among residents. The building has a facility of two lifts, he maintained.
The old-age home aims to serve as more than just a shelter – it is envisioned as a holistic care centre where senior citizens will get emotional, social and medical support, ensuring they receive proper care. By integrating recreational and community spaces, the project also aims to combat isolation and foster a vibrant senior community, the SE added.
