To replace the aging and damaged storm water pipelines in Sector 13, the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) has finalised the agency and allotted the work, which is likely to commence in a couple of days. The agency has to complete the work within two months.

The existing pipelines, stretching approximately 400 m on the main road between Guru Harikishan Chowk and Mool Chand Hospital, are not of uniform size and are damaged at various places. Over the years, these storm water pipelines have suffered wear and tear, leading to leaks and disruptions in the flow of water.

As per local residents, the laying of storm water pipelines has been a long-pending demand.

“A company was earlier finalised upon our demand, but due to rate issues, the work could not begin. Now, the municipal corporation has allotted the work and we are hopeful that damaged pipelines will be repaired,” said Vir Vikram Kumar, former councillor of Ward No. 10.

Employees of the agency and officials of the engineering wing of the KMC visited the site on Monday and assured the residents of completing the work before the deadline.

Monika Sharma, XEN, KMC, said to address the challenge of waterlogging, they had decided to replace the pipelines, which will be of a uniform size. “The work has been allotted, and it will be completed within two months at a cost of around Rs 19 lakh,” she added.

Abhishek Meena, Commissioner, KMC, emphasised that their main aim was to address the problems faced by residents.

“The replacement of damaged pipelines will help Sector 13 address the issue of flooding. I have asked the officials to ensure the quality of work,” he added. Officials have been instructed to make every effort to minimise inconvenience and ensure the smooth progression of the project.
