Rohtak, August 29

The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) will hold a joint meeting here on August 31 to discuss seat-sharing and potential candidates for four segments of Rohtak district for the Assembly elections. The meeting would be presided over by JJP leader Ajay Singh Chautala.

Both parties formed an alliance two days ago with the JJP contesting 70 seats and the ASP 20 in the upcoming Assembly polls. The state has a total of 90 Assembly seats.

“The party leadership is in the process of finalising the seats on which the JJP will contest and which will go to the ASP. Our senior leader Ajay Chautala is coming to Rohtak on August 31 to hold a joint meeting with the ASP leaders to deliberate on four Assembly seats of Rohtak district,” said Dr Sandeep Hooda, district president, JJP, adding that Chautala would also address a party workers’ meeting on the occasion.

He maintained that before the alliance with the ASP, the district unit had sent a panel of prospective candidates for all four seats — Rohtak, Meham, Kalanaur and Garhi Sampla-Kiloi for the final selection of the party candidate. In the panel, all four party leaders who contested previous Assembly and recent Lok Sabha polls had been included in the panel this time too, but the party leadership would decide who would contest the poll, the JJP leader added.

In the 2019 elections, JJP’s candidate Rajendra Valmiki from Kalanaur (reserve) and Dr Sandeep Hooda from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi remained third by securing 8,482 and 5,437 votes, respectively, while the party nominee from Meham Hargian Mokhra polled 5,122 votes and Rajesh Saini from Rohtak got 1,672 votes in the previous Assembly elections, while Ravinder Sangwan also unsuccessfully contested the recent Lok Sabha polls from Rohtak. All these leaders are included in the list of the JJP’s prospective candidates for four seats of Rohtak district this time too.

In the previous Assembly polls, the Congress had won three out of the four seats, while an Independent

candidate romped victory from Meham.

“Besides the old timers, names of Amit Sindhu, Rajesh Gulia, Saroj Yadav and Jitendra Balhara for Rohtak, Neelam Makrauli, Dr Rajpal Deswal, Pravesh Kansala, Surajbhan Fauzi, Leela Sarpanch for Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, Ravinder Sangwan, Krishan Ghanghas, Sanjay Balhara, Deepak Bedwa for Meham and Mahender Sudana, Ram Bilas Baniyani for Kalanaur (reserve) are in the panel of the potential candidates,” said the JJP district president.
