Balwan Singh Punia, father of Olympic medallist wrestler Bajrang Punia, passed away on Thursday evening. The news was shared by Bajrang through a heartfelt social media post.

In an emotional message on social media, Bajrang wrote, “Bapuji is no longer with us. He took his last breath today at 6.15 pm. He worked tirelessly to bring us to where we are today. He was the backbone of our family. I can’t imagine life without him.”

The last rites of Balwan Singh will be performed at his native Khuddan village here on Friday.

Balwan Singh was instrumental in shaping Bajrang’s wrestling career and was a guiding force behind his journey to international success.
