Work environment of doctors unsafe

We want an improvement in the working conditions of resident doctors, who often face harsh and unsafe environments. We urge the government for a respectful compensation package for the victim’s family — Dr Rohit Sadana, president, IMA, Karnal Unit

This step has been taken on the call of the national body of the IMA, demanding swift justice for the deceased doctor, whose killing has shocked the nation and ignited widespread outrage. Their primary demand includes the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the crime, formation of law to ensure security at healthcare institutions and the declaration of hospitals as safe zones.

While interacting with mediapersons, Dr Rohit Sadana, president, IMA, Karnal unit, said only emergency services were being offered.

“We want improvement in the working conditions of resident doctors, who often face harsh and unsafe working environments. We urge the government for a respectful compensation package for the victim’s family,” said Dr Sadana.

Dr Sachin Pruthi, general secretary, IMA, Karnal unit, said all non-emergency medical services had been suspended across the district. Emergency services remained operational, regular OPD services were halted and elective surgeries were postponed in a show of solidarity with the ongoing national protest.

Senior doctors of the city Dr Arvind Bhai, Dr Alok Gupta, Dr Gagan Kaushal and others also sought action against those involved in vandalism at the hospital where the crime occurred. They also demanded a fair inquiry in the case so that justice could be delivered to the victim.
