Governor’s first vidhan sabha visit
Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh received a warm welcome in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday by Speaker Harvinder Kalyan and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. Accompanied by his wife, Mitra Ghosh, the Governor later joined the CM, ministers, and MLAs for lunch — his first such interaction since assuming office in Haryana.
Over 16,000 teaching posts vacant
Replying to a query by Aftab Ahmed, Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda informed that 14,295 government schools are currently functional in state. He revealed major gaps in staffing: 30 headmaster posts vacant against 2,204 sanctioned, 4,583 TGT posts vacant out of 39,828, 2,557 vacancies in primary and head teacher posts, 332 principal posts unfilled of 2,575, and a staggering 8,519 PGT vacancies out of 37,738.
BJP MLA locks horns with Speaker
During zero hour, BJP MLA Ram Kumar Gautam pressed for a hike in collector rates and demanded a law mandating parental consent in marriages to curb elopement cases. He went on to say that Speaker Harvinder Kalyan “enjoyed” the heated exchanges between the Opposition and treasury benches. Taking strong exception, the Speaker said such comments must go on record and reminded the MLA that he was only discharging his duty. Gautam, visibly upset, termed the session “meaningless” for not being allowed sufficient time to speak.
Cong targets CM’s home turf
A Congress MLA highlighted poor road conditions in Kurukshetra, the CM’s home district, pointing out “500 potholes” on the stretch leading to the CM’s residence. “If that is the state of the road leading to the CM’s house, what can the common man expect?” he remarked.
