An accident on the Chandigarh-Hisar National Highway on the first day of the new year claimed the life of a 45-year-old devotee and left 15 others injured. The accident took place around 6 am between Batta and Kailram villages near Kalayat when a pick-up vehicle carrying devotees rammed into a stationary truck.
The group, hailing from Kurukshetra’s Boda village, was returning home after visiting a religious site in Rajasthan. The deceased has been identified as Gurumukh.
According to locals, the truck had broken down and was parked on the road without proper warning signs, leading to the collision.
SHO Jaibhagwan, along with a police team, rushed to the spot after receiving information from passersby. With the help of locals, the injured were rescued from the severely damaged vehicle and rushed to the district hospital for treatment.
“A case has been registered against the truck driver based on a complaint. The injured are currently undergoing treatment in Kaithal and Gurumukh’s body has been handed over to his family after a postmortem,” said SHO Jaibhagwan.
