Ambala: A four-day online capacity building programme was started under the aegis of the regional training centre of DAV organisation, Delhi-Ambala cluster, which was attended by teachers of eight schools from Ambala, Yamunanagar and Fatehabad. Dr R C Mishra, MD, Haryana Police Housing Corporation, Panchkula, said, "In the Covid era we are learning new things. This is a challenge. We must know tactics to convey our messages to students." Dr Vikas Kohli, assistant regional officer and principal, Police DAV Public School, Ambala City, said the DAV organisation aimed at instilling innovative competencies among teachers so that they could provide best knowledge to their students and in turn, these students could bring laurels to the DAV organisation and the country.

Elected to college mgmt panel

Karnal: Kanwarjeet Singh Prince, son of former MP Sardar Tara Singh, has been elected as head of the management committee of Guru Nanak Khalsa College for the fourth time. His father was elected as the general secretary of the college management committee in 1971 and became head of the college committee in 1979 and he remained head for 31years till 2010. After his father, Prince became the head of the committee, informed Dr Major Singh, principal of the college.

Bachelor's degree in social work

Faridabad: To cater to the need of skilled professionals for the social welfare sector, JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad has decided to introduce a bachelor's degree course in social work from the ensuing academic session. While giving information to this effect, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dinesh Kumar said in line with the provisions of the National Education Policy 2020, the university had focused on liberal arts courses. A liberal arts degree prepares students for a life of learning and it emphasises skills like critical thinking, communication, creative problem solving, self-expression, innovative research, and lifelong learning that can lead to a great career and a well-lived life, he added. The VC said the university had been taking various initiatives from time to time to inspire the spirit of social concern among students and now it had been decided to start courses on social work. He further said social workers played an important role in addressing various social problems; therefore, it had a good scope as a career. Previously, the university was already offering courses like BA and MA in journalism and mass communication, MA in English and BSc in multimedia and animation under the faculty of liberal arts and media studies (FLAMS).

Session on provisions of RTI Act

Faridabad: JC Bose University of Science and Technology, YMCA, Faridabad on Friday organised a session on various provisions of the RTI Act on the second day of the ongoing training programme for public information officers (PIOs) and non-teaching officials. As many as 90 participants attended the session. Aarti Dudeja, faculty of public administration in the Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA), Gurugram, was the resource person during the session. The session was chaired by registrar Dr SK Garg and coordinated by deputy registrar (establishment) Dr Meha Sharma. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Garg outlined the importance of the RTI Act and said it had proved to be an effective tool in fighting against corruption.
