OP Chautala’s ashes immersed in Western Yamuna Canal in Karnal
Keeping in view the sentiments of the people of the state who could not attend the cremation of former CM and INLD supremo OP Chautala, party workers took out a ‘Asthi Kalash Yatra’ covering all districts of the state.
On the third and final day of the yatra on Sunday, the ashes of former CM, who passed away on December 20, reached Karnal, where the party leaders paid tributes to the former CM and immersed the ashes in the Western Yamuna Canal.
The programme to immerse the ashes was attended by a large number of INLD workers, leaders and residents. State president Rampal Majra and Arju Chautala reached Karnal with the ashes. As per Majra, the ashes will further go to Kaithal and later to Kurukshetra.
The yatra was organised on the request of the party leaders and workers. “Former CM OP Chautala ji was the leader of the state and nation who worked tirelessly for the rights of the common man. His contributions to Haryana and the voice he gave to farmers and labourers will always be remembered. The immersion of his ashes in the sacred waters of Western Yamuna Canal is to honour his legacy and his lifelong commitment to the state,” said Majra.
“Since OP Chautala was a leader of the people of Haryana and was connected with each and every worker of the party, we requested the family members to take out an ‘asthi kalash yatra’ in the state after the final ritual was conducted in Haridwar. The family members accepted our request and we took out the yatra with the ashes of the former CM in 22 ‘kalash’ for each district. We immersed a ‘kalash’ in every district,” he added.
The yatra ended at Sanhit Sarovar in Kurukshetra on Sunday after covering the entire state.
Majra said the yatra saw emotional gatherings across the state as people remember the towering political figure who dedicated his life to the welfare of the farmers and workers.
“The final tribute ceremony and ‘rasam pagri’ will take place on December 31 at Chaudhary Devi Lal Stadium in Sirsa, where the leaders and supporters from across the state are expected to gather to pay their tributes to the leader,” said Majra.
In Karnal, district president Yashvir Rana Kuku, along with party workers paid tributes to the leader. Kuku said Chautala had served as the CM of Haryana five times and was known for his grassroots connection with the people. His passing away marked the end of an era in Haryana politics, leaving a void that would be hard to fill.
