Open manholes in Faridabad endangering lives

The failure of the civic authorities to cover the manholes in the city is a blot on the tall claims of development and the Smart City project, under which hundreds of crores of public funds are being spent. The poor civic infrastructure that includes damaged and open manholes got exposed recently, when a 24-year-old youth lost his life after he fell into a manhole in Sector 55 on Saturday night. While the incident is highly unfortunate and shameful for the authorities concerned, it must come as an eye-opener and warning that no excuse on the part of the officials should be acceptable. Residents, NGOs and elected representatives must join hands to prevent such happenings and ensure a tough action against the negligent officials and the department concerned. Wing Commander Satinder Singh (retd), Faridabad

Make court complex secure

The stray dog menace at the Judicial Complex and the Lawyers’ Chamber has become a cause for concern. Dogs can be seen roaming and sitting inside the complex. Also, free movement of vendors selling different goods in these buildings is not justified from the security point of view. Entry of such unwanted people inside the premises must be stopped. The committee of the Punjab and Haryana High Court is requested to prepare a concrete policy in this regard in consultation with the District and Sessions Judge and Bar Association president and take appropriate action for the safety of these buildings. Demand for single, viable site for bus stop at Pipli

Commuters waiting at Pipli to board a bus for Chandigarh have been facing a tough time. Earlier all buses used to stop the Pipli road- NH-44 junction, but now a new stop has been made at the Pipli Parakeet. This is irrational as the new stop is at 200 m away from the Pipli road-NH-44 junction and towards Delhi. The buses that start plying from Kurukshetra have to move in the opposite lane to reach the new stop, which they don’t and still stop at the juncture. Buses coming from the Delhi side too have their own discretion in this regard. Following this, it is the commuters who face inconvenience as they never know where the next bus is going to stop. I urge the administration to rectify this mismanagement and decide on only one bus stop for Pipli and, that too, at a more convenient and logical location. Suraj Kumar, Kurukshetra
