Over 16,340 challans issued to traffic violators in Kurukshetra district

During the ongoing special drive focusing on seven traffic rule violations, the Kurukshetra police have issued over 16,340 challans to traffic rule violators during the past three months. As per the data shared by the Kurukshetra police, from June to August, challans were issued to the traffic rules violators for seven offences, including drunken drive, triple riding, using modified silencers on vehicles, driving without number plate, using red and blue beacon lights, black films and without pattern/high security registration plate (HSRP).

A Kurukshetra police spokesman Naresh Kumar said regular challans were being issued and awareness camps organised to educate people about the traffic rules. Of the total challans issued, 7,284 were for driving without pattern number plate, 3,934 were issued to vehicles without number plate; 3,575 for tipple riding, 640 for drunk driving, 482 for installing modified silencers, 411 for using black films, and 16 for using red and blue beacons on four wheelers.

Besides challans, night patrolling has been intensified in the district to curb criminal activities and keep a close watch on the people moving during the late hours.

Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Nitish Agarwal said, “Special drives are being run to educate people about traffic rules, increase awareness and prevent road accidents. Directions have been issued to officials concerned to keep a check on suspicious vehicles and on people roaming on vehicles without number plates and with black films. Action is also being taken against the people who consume liquor at public places and drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol. The challaning drive will be intensified further. People must follow traffic rules.”
