Over 26,000 streetlights to be installed in Ambala City

Over 26,000 streetlights, procured at a cost of Rs 17.35 crore, will be installed in Ambala City.

As per the information, 26,215 streetlights are to be installed in the wards under the limits of the Ambala Municipal Corporation.

The streetlights were purchased last year but due to some tender-related issues regarding installations, the streetlights were not installed. The street lights were lying with the Municipal Corporation, Ambala, and the elected members of the house were seeking early installation. In the absence of proper lighting, a number of areas plunge into darkness, causing inconvenience to residents and commuters.

Mithun Verma, a member of the house from Ward10, said, “The lights were purchased by the Municipal Corporation last year but due to various issues, including the tender related and political, the street lights were not installed. The delay in installation has affected the warranty period of the lights too, the officials must ensure that the warranty period of the lights should begin from the day the lights are installed.”

“Moreover, a number of streetlights installed last year are lying defunct in the absence of proper maintenance. The municipal corporation officials should make sure that the lights are maintained and repaired in time, otherwise the areas remain in darkness despite the streetlights in place,” he added.

Senior BJP leader and former Minister of State Aseem Goel said, “The state government has always given priority to the facilities of the public. Under this project, the number of streetlights will be increased across the city. The installation of streetlights will not only enhance the beauty of the city, but people will also get better road safety during the late hours. More than 26,000 lights are to be installed and instructions have been given to the officials to ensure that the streetlights are installed in a way so that no corner of the city remains in darkness.”

“The streetlights have been lying with the corporation for a long time, but due to technical reasons, these lights could not be installed. Now, with the decision taken and direction from of Chief Minister Nayab Saini, the lights will be installed soon. Several development works have been approved by the government for Ambala City and it will be ensured that the city does not lag behind in terms of development”, he added.
