Over 530 empty cartridges of various firearms were recovered from the Narwana Branch canal on Sunday, during a police search for a stolen two-wheeler.
According to officials, the police team and divers were conducting a search operation in the canal when they accidentally discovered 539 empty cartridges, including 31 dummy rounds, packed in polybags.
Vinod Kumar, incharge of Police Post Third-Gate, said: “We were searching for a stolen two-wheeler when divers spotted empty cartridges of four different types of firearms. There hasn’t been any major firing incident in the area where so many bullets could have been used. There is also a possibility that someone may have stolen these empty cartridges from a scrap dealer and later dumped them into the canal. The cartridges will be sent for forensic examination. A case has been registered and the matter is under investigation.”
