Over 57K take part in Panipat marathon

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today said that the state’s youth had distinguished themselves both nationally and internationally through their talent and skills. He was addressing a huge gathering at the Sector 13/17 ground before flagging off ‘Panipat Marathon’.

He said the marathon aimed at raising awareness on fitness, while promoting love and brotherhood among citizens.

As many as 57,594 persons took part in the marathon, which was organised in three categories. In the 5-km category, there were 54,145 participants; in the 10-km category, there were 2,169 participants; and in the 21-km category, there were 1,280 participants.

The CM said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi frequently commended the power of youth. “A healthy body is fundamental to a fulfilling life, and it has been said that the first happiness lies in good health,” he said.

The Chief Minister felicitated the winners and administered an oath to the youth to stay away from drugs.

Congratulating all participants, he said involvement in such events sends a positive message to society and inspires all, especially children and young people.

The Chief Minister also joined marathon runners in an open vehicle and visited various stalls set up by local institutions.

In his remarks, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the programme would achieve its objectives, praising the enthusiasm shown by participants, including a significant number of school and college students, young athletes, police personnel and even senior citizens.

He mentioned plans to establish open-air gymnasiums in every block as part of their Sankalp Patra initiative.

The marathon was part of the Haryana Uday programme, launched in June 2023, aimed at fostering public welfare through community engagement.

Development and Panchayat Minister Krishan Lal Panwar said that such events inspired youth to seek new directions and foster interest in sports. He commended the administration and all social and religious organisations involved for their efforts in making the event a success. Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda said that the event, which was an awareness campaign on fitness, had been successful. MLAs Pramod Vij (Panipat Urban) and Manmohan Bhadana (Samalkha), Chief Minister’s Special Officer (Community Policing and Outreach) Pankaj Nain, Deputy Commissioner Virender Kumar Dahiya, were among those present at the event.
