In a major crackdown on illegal drug trade, the Dabwali police seized 81,900 intoxicating tablets and capsules during a raid at Mandi Kalanwali, near Punjab border. The raid was conducted under the supervision of the Drug Inspector and one person, Chirag Garg alias Chinki, was arrested from his residence.

The police recovered 32,400 capsules and 49,500 tablets from the accused’s house, all of which were stored without a medical prescription or legal licence, violating drug control laws. At present, the suspect is being interrogated.

Sunil Kumar, in-charge of the Kalanwali Police Chowki, said the operation was carried out based on a tip-off. This marks the second major recovery of medical drugs in May. Earlier, the CIA Kalanwali had arrested another accused, Joginder, with 72,400 such tablets and capsules.

The seized drugs were verified in the presence of the Drug Inspector. Dabwali Superintendent of Police Nikita Khattar warned of strict action against those involved in the sale of medical drugs for intoxication. He also appealed to medical store owners and associations to avoid selling such medicines without valid prescriptions.

The police noted that although some of these drugs were not covered under the NDPS Act, they were increasingly misused as narcotics. The accused will be produced in court and further investigation is ongoing.
