Over Rs 4 lakh fine imposed for flouting single use plastic ban in four districts

As part of a special statewide enforcement drive against banned single-use plastic (SUP) items, teams of the district administration of Bhiwani, Sirsa, Charkhi Dadri, and Fatehabad districts carried out inspections and issued challan to violators of the ban.

A spokesperson informed that in Bhiwani, 26 challans were issued with fines of Rs 1,03,000 on violators and Rs 71,000 were recovered, besides recovery of 90 kg SUP items. In Sirsa, seven challans were issued with fine of Rs 1,06,500 of which Rs 1,500 were recovered and 160 kg SUP items seized. In Charkhi Dadri, six challans were issued with fine of Rs 52,000 on violators and 67.4 kg SUP items seized. In Fatehabad, 14 challans were issued with fine of Rs 1,49,500 and 100 kg SUP items seized. In all, 53 challans were issued, and fine worth Rs 4,11,000 imposed, and 417 kg SUP items seized from violators of the ban.

The spokesperson said ahead of the drive, a meeting with Vyapar Mandal was held in Bhiwani recently in which traders were sensitised about the ban on manufacture, sale, and distribution of the SUP items, promotion of eco-friendly alternatives, applicable legal provisions and penalties.
