Residents of Jai Vihar and Rajendra Park near Chirag Hospital in Gurugram have raised concerns about overflowing sewage and stagnant wastewater on the main street, a problem that has persisted for several weeks. The situation has disrupted daily life, posing health risks and creating an unbearable foul smell in the area.

Local resident Sushil Kumar said numerous complaints have been lodged with the Municipal Corporation; however, no action has been taken to resolve the problem. “Clogged pipelines in the residential areas cause the sewage from manholes to overflow and stagnate on the roads. This is a recurring problem and no permanent solution has been provided. We are forced to live in filthy, stagnant water, which increases health risks and promotes the breeding of mosquitoes,” he said.

Ajay Kumar, another resident, shared similar frustrations, stating residents are unable to leave their homes due to the stagnant sewage on the streets. He added the local civic body had not addressed their concerns. “In the past month, no action has been taken to pump out the stagnant sewage water and residents have no choice but to walk through it,” he said.

The situation worsened during recent rains when excess rainwater mixed with sewage, flooding the entire street.

It was later revealed the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has built a new sewage treatment plant (STP) in the area; however, it has yet to become operational. Additionally, the existing sewage pipelines in the surrounding areas have not been connected to the new sewage treatment plant, according to local residents.

Municipal Corporation of Gurugram Commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg said he would instruct relevant authorities to address the problem as soon as possible.
