Owners of four shops challaned for use of banned polythene bags
A joint team of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) conducted raids at four shops and issued challans to owners of those shops for using banned polythene bags.
According to information, the joint team raided the shops on Railway Road and Kheda Mohalla market of Yamunanagar.
During the raid, a large amount of polythene was recovered from the four shopkeepers.
The team issued challans on the spot to all four shopkeepers and collected a fine of about 35,000 from them.
As per available information, the team headed by Chief Sanitary Inspector Sunil Dutt and Assistant Environment Engineer of HSPCB Vinit Nayak first raided shops on Railway Road.
During the raid, polythene was recovered from a dairy and a wholesaler from near Geeta Bhawan. The joint team issued challan to them on the spot.
Later, the team raided the shops of two wholesalers located in Kheda Mohalla and recovered a huge quantity of polythene from them. The team also issued challans to them.
CSI Sunil Dutt said the raid was conducted to stop the use of single-use plastic on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha.
He said there was a complete ban on the use of 19 plastic items, including single-use plastic such as polythene bags, plastic spoons, donas, glasses, ice cream sticks, plates, cups, forks, straws, trays and foil on sweet boxes since July 1, 2020.
