Oxy-van to be opened in Karnal today

Preparations are in full swing for the much-anticipated state-level Van Mahotsav, which will be held tomorrow (July 13) at Sector 37 in Karnal city. The event will be chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who will also inaugurate an oxy-van that has already been developed.

“We have made all arrangements for this 75th state-level Van Mahotsav. Nearly 20,000 saplings will be planted during the event by students, self-help groups, sportspersons, officials, NGOs, religious groups and residents of the district,” said Navdeep Singh, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF).
“The students and self-help groups from across the district will also undertake ‘Miyawaki’ plantation, a Japanese pattern of plantation, at the same site, which will help in creating a dense green cover in a short-span of time,” said Singh.
With the planting of ‘Triveni’, the CM will open the event, while MoS for Forest Sanjay Singh will plant ‘Triphla’ at oxy-van phase-II,” he added.
About the purpose, he said the Van Mahotsav was celebrated every year during the monsoon season to mark the formal beginning of the plantation campaign. “We have kept a target to plant nearly 1.60 crore plants, out of which nearly 80 lakh plants will be planted by the department, while another 80 lakh will be distributed under the ‘Paudhgiri’ campaign, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, free supply components and others,” said Navdeep Singh.
Earlier, Anand Mohan Sharan, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Forest and Wildlife Department, Pankaj Goel, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Pankaj Nain, OSD to CM, Uttam Singh, Deputy Commissioner and Mohit Handa, Superintendent of Police have already reviewed the preparations of the event in the past couple of days. They also reviewed the security arrangements.
The District Education Officer (DEO) had been asked to ensure the participation of students.
