Chandigarh, February 15
With the aim of providing uninterrupted electricity to the people of the state, the Haryana Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mahanadi Basin Power Limited (MBPL) to purchase 800 megawatt of power. In the presence of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam managing director Dr Saket Kumar and Debasish Nanda from Coal India Ltd signed the MoU. The Chief Minister said a super-critical thermal power plant of 1,600 MW (2×800 megawatt) was being set up in Odisha by Coal India Ltd subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd.
He said Mahanadi Basin Power Limited (MBPL) had proposed to supply 800 MW of electricity from its proposed plant in Odisha to Haryana. “A single tariff (levelised tariff) of Rs 4.46 per unit has been fixed for the proposed power purchase,” Khattar said.
He said to increase the availability of electricity, the state government would set up an 800-megawatt thermal power plant in Yamunanagar. “Currently, the electricity production capacity in Haryana is 2,582 MW, and with the setting up of this new plant, the state’s domestic energy production capacity will increase to 3,382 MW,” the CM said.
