Paddy procurement delayed, BKU (Charuni) chief 'slaps' District Food and Civil Supplies Controller in Kurukshetra
Police detain Gurnam Singh Charuni and some of his union members over the incident
The Kurukshetra police have detained Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh Charuni and some of his union members after he allegedly slapped a District Food and Civil Supplies Controller (DFSC) at the Mini-Secretariat in Kurukshetra.
Farmers were staging a dharna at the Mini-Secretariat, demanding a smooth procurement process. Gurnam Singh accused the officials of the procurement agencies and the district officers of promoting corrupt practices in the paddy procurement.
DSP Ram Kumar and several district officials also reached the spot in an attempt to pacify the farmers, but to no avail.
During the protest, DFSC Rajesh Kumar reached the spot to hold a discussion with the farmer leaders; however, infuriated over the delay in procurement due to which the farmers were facing losses, Gurnam allegedly slapped the DFSC.
Following the incident, Gurnam, along with his union members, were taken away from the complex in a police van.
