Pahalgam attack aftermath: Pakistani Hindu family moved from Hisar to Delhi

Amid heightened security concerns following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, J&K, a 15-member Hindu family from Pakistan’s Sindh province was relocated from Balsamand village in Hisar to Delhi on Thursday.

Police officials confirmed that the Hisar police facilitated the family’s transportation and handed them over to Delhi authorities at a designated refugee camp for Pakistani nationals. The family, originally from Hyderabad in Sindh, includes elderly members, women, and children.

Shesh Karan, incharge of the Balsamand police chowki, said, “There was one family who had been living there since October 2024. They were sent by bus and handed over to Delhi officials. The family has a valid visa for their stay.”

Sources revealed that the family had applied for long-term visas (LTV) and had been living on the outskirts of Balsamand village in makeshift shelters, working as daily wage labourers on agricultural land.

The family expressed unwillingness to return to Pakistan, citing religious persecution and economic hardship. “We are Hindus and were subjected to continuous harassment in Pakistan. There has been a high rate of inflation,” said Shobha, a family member.

The family initially entered India via Rajasthan and spent some time in Delhi before relocating to Balsamand with the help of a local resident, Shamsher, who assisted in their settlement.

Their relocation comes amid a security alert in several states post the Pahalgam incident. According to police sources, Central agencies and Haryana Police had recently conducted background checks on the family as part of routine security protocols.
