The poll bugle has been sounded for the byelection of posts of five sarpanch and 36 panch in the district. While the nomination will begin on May 24, the election will be held on June 15.
As per information, posts of sarpanch have been lying vacant in Kathgarh, Sajjan Majri, Ajampur, Lakhnaura, and Nasrauli villages.
The nomination will be filed from May 24 to 30, and the scrutiny of papers will be done on May 31. The candidates can withdraw nomination on June 2, and on the same day, the symbols will be allotted. The polling will be held on June 15 and the result will be announced on the same day.
District Development and Panchayat Officer, Ambala, Dinesh Sharma said, “In Naraingarh block, posts of two sarpanch (Ajampur and Lakhnaura) and 13 panch were vacant; in Barara block, a post of sarpanch (Sajjan Majri) and three panch; in Shahazadpur, one post of sarpanch (Nasrauli) and eight panch; in Ambala-II block, three posts of panch; in Saha block, three posts of panch; in Ambala-I, one post of sarpanch (Kathgarh), and six posts of panch.”
He said the majority of posts fell vacant due to the deaths of sitting panches and sarpanches. In some cases, the panches had resigned after they got jobs, while the sarpanch of Kathgarh village was suspended over the issue of fake certificate.
Meanwhile, with the announcement of dates, election-related activities have been started by the candidates and their supporters.
