Farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) today blocked the Panchkula-Haridwar national highway at Kail village in Yamunanagar district to press for their demands before the Union government amid the ongoing protest by the farmers on the Punjab and Haryana borders.

On the call given by the BKU, the farmers assembled on the national highway and blocked it from 12 noon to 2 pm. The protesting farmers were led by Mandeep Singh Rodchhappar, district director, BKU.

Mandeep said the government was suppressing the voice of farmers by using guns, tear gas shells, sticks and rubber bullets, but the farmers would not bow before any pressure tactics of the government.

Another farmer leader, Gurveer Kapoor, said this was a symbolic demonstration.

“If the government doesn’t allow the farmers to go to Delhi and stop using the force, then a big movement will be organised like before,” he said.

The farmer leaders also expressed anger against the action taken by the police against farmers at the Shambhu border.
