Farmers in Hisar district are facing delays in receiving crop insurance claims under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), with nearly 50% of eligible claims still unpaid. A district-level monitoring committee (DLMC) meeting has now directed the insurance firm to disburse pending claims at the earliest.

At the meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Aneesh Yadav, officials reviewed crop insurance issues for kharif 2022 and rabi 2022-23. DC Yadav instructed the insurance company to resolve all outstanding claims promptly to ensure timely compensation for affected farmers.

Vimal Mishra, a representative of the private insurance firm, assured the committee that the company would disburse claims as per its policies.

According to official data, 22,213 farmers had applied for claims, but 4,693 cases remain unresolved. Additionally, only 50% of eligible claims have been settled for the season.

A major issue raised in the meeting was the rejection of claims for mustard crop damage in Lohari Ragho village. Several insurance policies were either denied or only partially approved due to survey delays by the insurer. The committee has now directed the firm to reassess these claims and compensate the affected farmers.

Discrepancies in insurance settlements were also highlighted in Masudpur, Chaudharywas and Sisai Kalan villages. In Masudpur, only 17 out of 81 claims were approved, despite official reports confirming significant mustard crop damage. Similar inconsistencies were reported in Chaudharywas and Sisai Kalan, prompting the committee to urge fair claim settlements.

Further, it was revealed that 13 farmers had their claims rejected due to clerical errors. The committee has asked officials to correct these mistakes immediately so that these farmers receive their rightful compensation.
