Sonepat, August 1
Sonepat Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena has constituted a committee to probe the recent incident of a child’s death and sought a report within three days.
A 13-year-old boy, Vivek, of Adarsh Nagar, fell into a manhole on the Sonepat-Murthal road on Tuesday as he was returning home with his brother and their friend. The child’s body was recovered from the sewerage line after an extensive search operation by MC officials and an NDRF team that lasted over eight hours.
Apart from this, the police have also began a probe into the matter. They registered a case against the contractor concerned and officials of the MC on the complaint of the deceased’s father on Wednesday.
Commissioner Meena said it was an unfortunate incident and that a committee had been formed under the supervision of the superintending engineer to inquire about the details of the mishap. The committee had been directed to submit a factual report of the incident within three days, he added.
MC officials have also been directed to conduct a thorough survey of the city’s sewerage to check for any missing manhole lids and replace them.
It is pertinent to mention here that the work to cover Drain No.6 has been underway for many years. Almost 90 per cent of the work of covering the drain has been completed and the rest of the work has been stopped due to monsoon.
