Yamunanagar, August 22
People of Rattuwala village, falling under Sadhaura block of Yamunanagar district, are living in fear after a leopard attacked a woman in the village.
After getting information about the presence of a leopard, the Wildlife Department authorities swung into action and visited the village.
Suman, a resident of Rattuwala village, was washing clothes at her house situated in the outer area of the village on Wednesday, when the leopard allegedly attacked her.
She had a narrow escape, but her clothes were torn in the attack. Wildlife Inspector Liluram said a team of forest officials had been sent to the village where the leopard was spotted.
“When the villagers informed us about the attack, I immediately sent a team from the department to the village. I also visited the area at night,” said Liluram.
He added that they however, got no solid evidence about the presence of the leopard, but awareness was being created among the residents on how to deal with such a situation. He said the villagers were advised to not venture out during odd hours and refrain from leaving livestock outside. “We are afraid to venture out even in the day,” said a villager.
