The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Panipat has launched a campaign to remove illegal unipoles and hoardings installed on buildings, business premises and public spaces in violation of civic norms. These unauthorised advertisements not only harm the city’s aesthetics but also result in significant revenue losses to the civic body.

Dr Pankaj Yadav, Commissioner of the MC, has directed an audit of illegal advertising sites across the city, globally renowned as the "Textile City." A survey conducted by the MC on Thursday identified 24 such illegal unipoles.

Unauthorised hoardings and banners have been installed at various locations, including public spaces, building rooftops, business establishments and major roadways like the elevated highway on NH-44, Assandh Road flyover, Gohana Road flyover and Jatal Road flyover. These illegal sites are used for personal and commercial publicity, allowing violators to earn money from advertisers while bypassing MC regulations.

“The people installing these illegal hoardings are not only causing revenue losses to the corporation but also marring the city’s beauty,” said Dr Pankaj Yadav.

As per the MC Act, advertisements can only be placed at designated locations by paying a prescribed fee. To address the issue, the MC teams have removed the identified illegal unipoles and publicity boards, confiscating them during the drive.

“A special campaign has been launched to tackle illegal advertisement sites, unipoles and promotional materials near public places and on private buildings in the city,” Dr Yadav said. “On the first day, 24 such sites were identified and removed.”

The Commissioner also stated that notices would be issued to violators who have installed illegal advertising boards on their properties. Action will be taken against them under the provisions of the MC Act to ensure compliance and recover losses.

This campaign aims to improve the financial health of the Municipal Corporation and restore the city’s visual appeal.
