Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced the construction of the auditorium and the library on people’s demand.

MLA Pramod Vij took up the project and held rounds of meetings with various officers and finalised the project. After getting administrative approval, the MC prepared the DPR and project drawings. The government has also allotted funds for the project.

As per the DPR, the MC will construct a centralised air-conditioned building for an auditorium having a capacity of 800 people. The building will also have a library and an indoor multipurpose hall. The parking area would be created in the basement of the building and a stage would also be developed for organising various programmes here. At present, most programmes are held in auditoriums of schools and colleges.

Meanwhile, the multi-storey indoor stadium project has also got the approval of the government and Engineering Wing officials have submitted the DPR and drawings to the ULB headquarters. This stadium would be constructed at the old vegetable market site on the Sanoli road. The vegetable market was shifted near the grain market after which, Ravinder Bhatia, Councillor, Ward-10 brought out the proposal for the indoor stadium at the site. The Chief Minister has given approval for the project.

The stadium will be constructed under Divya Nagar Yojna at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore.

As per the DPR, for the stadium, a three-story building and five sports areas — badminton court, table-tennis court, boxing ring, wrestling court and basketball court — would be constructed. The indoor stadium would be constructed on 6,900 sq m. Toilets and changing rooms for boys and girls, VIP rooms and lounges will be constructed here. There will be adequate sitting arrangements for people and a first-aid room for players will also be set up. Along with stairs, lifts will also be provided.

Ravinder Bhatia, former Councillor, Ward-10, said this would be a big infrastructure upgrade for players. Soon, the construction of the indoor stadium would be started, he said.

Rahul Punia, XEN, MC, said the detailed project report and drawings had been approved by the ULB headquarters. Now, tenders would be invited and after selection of the agency, work on both projects would be started, he said. The projects’ estimated cost is over 100 crore, he said.
