Panipat, December 13
The Municipal Corporation (MC) has decided to shift the garbage dumping site from Sector 25 to Chautala road. It has prepared the final proposal for it with the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP).
This was decided after the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) served show-cause notice to the MC for non-compliance of norms under Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rule 2016.
According to sources, teams of HSPCB physically verified the various locations in the city and found big garbage dumps lying open at various locations. The teams clicked photos and noted the GPS locations of various sites and submitted their reports.
The teams especially mentioned that solid waste was dumped in large amounts adjacent to Gymkhana Club, Sector 25, where incidents of garbage burning were observed regularly.
Following the reports of the teams, the Regional Officer, HSPCB, served show-cause notice on December 4 to the MC Commissioner to comply with norms under SWM Rule-2016, said sources.
In the notice, HSPCB said that the MC was responsible for collection, segregation, storage, transportation, processing and disposal of municipal solid waste in an environmentally safe manner by setting up waste processing and disposal facilities, including landfill site, as per SWM Rule-2016.
It was specifically mentioned in the notice that solid waste was also found burning during the inspection conducted on September 27 by HSPCB teams on the direction of EPCA chairman Bhure Lal.
A show-cause notice was also issued in this regard on September 30, but no response has been received so far, the notice reads.
Sandeep Singh, RO, HSPCB, said that show-cause notice was served to the MC for non-compliance of the norms under SWM Rule 2016.
Om Prakash, Commissioner, said that we have prepared a proposal to shift the garbage dumping site from Sector 25 to Chautala road with the collaboration of Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) and also held a meeting with the officers of HSVP over the issue.
The final draft for shifting of the garbage-dumping site is ready and HSVP officers have sent it to their headquarters for approval, the Commissioner said.
