Panipat police bust robbers’ gang, one arrested

With the arrest of an accused, the Panipat police have claimed to have busted a gang reportedly involved in robberies at gunpoints from liquor shops on national highways.

The accused has been identified as Sahil of Ganjbar village in Panipat and he was arrested from Samalkha grain market gate on Saturday evening.

Notably, the miscreants robbed Rs 2.53 lakh from two liquor shops on March 27 night-- one on NH-44 near Sector 29 byepass while the other on NH-44 between Samalkha and PattiKalyana.

Superintendent of Police Lokender Singh handed over the investigation to Inspector Sumit Saroha, Incharge, Anti-Narcotic Cell and his team.

The Inspector said accused Sahil revealed in the primarily investigation that he committed the robbery along with his three friends -- Sukha of Khatik Basti, Farukh of Pratap Bazar and Mohit of Murthal in Sonepat district.

The accused further said all four met in Panipat district jail, the inspector said.

Sahil was lodged in district jail in 2021 in connection with a murder case while Sukha, Farukh and Mohit were also in the jail in a murder case. They became good friends in the jail and all were released on bail one year ago, Inspector Saroha said.

Sahil further said on March 27 he along with Farukh were standing near an old bus stand, meanwhile Sukha and Mohit came in a white coloured Creta car and they planned to loot cash from liquor shops.

Mohit had a pistol with him. After that they removed number plates of the vehicle and robbed cash, mobile and liquor bottles from two liquor shops, the accused told the police.

Inspector Sumit Saroha said his three associates--Sukha, Mohit and Farukh-- are on the run so far.

The accused was produced before the court today and the court sent them on two days police remand, he said. Mohit has a criminal record and around 10 criminal cases have been registered against him, the inspector said.
