Panipat, March 28

A 36-year-old man allegedly shot himself with his licensed pistol after killing his wife, daughter and son at Raj Nagar locality here late last night.

The victims have been identified as Anil Sharma, a ration depot holder, his wife Poonam (35), daughter Prachi (11) and son Anshu (7) of Morkhi village in Jind. They were living in street number 3 in Raj Nagar locality.

It is not immediately known why he took the extreme step. But Poonam’s brother Pawan Kumar of Daha village of Karnal district in a complaint to the police has alleged that Poonam’s father-in-law Nafe Singh, mother-in-law Angoori Devi, brother-in-law Naveen, his wife Kavita; Anil’s cousin Mohan and Mahender had been mentally torturing them for the past many years and had also threatened Anil and Poonam of eviction from the property.

He further alleged that the father, mother and brother of Anil had threatened them on Saturday night too. After that, Anil killed Poonam, Prachi and Anshu with his licensed pistol before killing himself.

On the basis of the complaint, the police have booked six members of Anil’s family, including his father, mother, brother, brother’s wife and two cousins. Nafe Singh, Anil’s father, refuted the allegations.

The incident was noticed on Saturday morning when a person came to Anil’s home and called out his name many times. But he did not receive any response. Then, he informed Anil’s father who lives in a nearby house. They entered Anil’s house by jumping from the neighbour’s roof and breaking open a door.

All four victims were lying in a pool of blood on a bed and the licensed pistol was lying on the floor.

Inspector Sunil Kumar said that six persons including Nafe Singh, Angoori Devi, Naveen, his wife Kavita, Mohan and Mahender have been booked under Section 302, 306, 34 of IPC and Section 27, 54, 59 of the Arms Act.
