Panipat school night camp turns ugly; students thrashed, parents booked too

The Panipat police have registered two separate cases after a group of Class VII students were allegedly beaten by two PTI teachers during a night camp organised by a private school in Samalkha. The counter-case was filed against several parents who allegedly assaulted a teacher following the incident.

A team from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), led by chairperson Kedar Dutt, along with the police, visited the college on Monday and examined CCTV footage related to the matter.

According to information, PIET School in Sector-25, HUDA, had organised a 24-hour night camp for around 250 students at PIET College, Samalkha, starting at 8.30 am on December 6 and concluding at 8.30 am the next day.

In their complaint to the Samalkha police, parents Sanjay Goyal, Mahir Chandna and Gaurav Arora alleged that during the camp, teachers Krishan Gulia and Aman “beat their wards in the wee hours on Sunday.” They further alleged that “the teachers have beaten several other children, too.”

SI Deepak, SHO Samalkha, said a case has been registered against Rakesh Tayal, Suresh Tayal, Krishan Gulia, Babita Singh and teacher Aman under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Juvenile Justice Act. “No accused has been arrested and a probe is underway into the matter,” he added.

Meanwhile, teacher Krishan Gulia filed a counter-complaint with the Chandnibagh police, alleging that a group of parents attacked him. He stated that some parents were accusing the school management and teachers of beating their children. “They tried to pacify them, but some parents – Sanjay Goyal, Paras Chandna, Gaurav Chandna, Sandeep, and 2-3 other parents – attacked him,” the complaint says.

Acting on his complaint, the Chandnibagh police registered a case against the parents under various sections of the BNS.

Inspector Mahipal, SHO Chandnibagh, confirmed that a case has been filed against the parents. “No accused has been arrested in the matter and a probe into the matter is underway,” he said.
