Panipat sector residents rue lack of basic amenities

Members of the Sector 7 residents’ welfare association (RWA) on Sunday, under the banner of Haryana State HUDA Sectors Confederation, held a meeting to express anger over the “delay” in providing basic amenities to the area.

Residents alleged that officials of the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) had not fulfilled their promises.

The meeting was presided over by Randhir Singh, president of the Sector-7 RWA. Rampat Nain, the association vice-president, alleged that officials of the HSVP had not allotted tenders, work orders, or allotment letters to contractors on time, due to which the sector was deprived of basic amenities.

Nain said Tau Devi Lal Park in Sector 7 was an example of the negligence of HSVP officials, as the condition of the park had been pitiable for the past two months.

Hundreds of people visited the park daily, and its cleanliness situation was poor, he added.

There were no dustbins, no one watered the plants, and flowers were badly damaged, he alleged.

The work of the Sector 7 community centre was also going on at a very slow pace, he added.

The association president and vice-president said the project for a sewage treatment plant for sectors 7 and 8 was hanging fire, adding that residents of the sectors had been facing a lot of problems due to

sewerage issues for the last six-seven years.

RWA members noted that Sector 7 was in Ward 26 of the municipal corporation. There should be nine vehicles for garbage collection in Ward 26, but only three-four vehicles had come to collect garbage in the last two-three days, they claimed. Members demanded a fair inquiry into the matter.

Baljeet Singh, convener, Haryana State HUDA Sectors Confederation, said a meeting of members of various RWAs had been called at the estate office of the HSVP in Sector 18 on November 11.

In the meeting, members would decide the next course of action against the “lethargic attitude” of the HSVP, Singh added.
