‘Dilli Chalo’ march: Panipat, Sonepat prepare to stop agitating farmers

Concrete blocks, heavy JC barricades, and machinery have been placed at three borders — the Gohana-Jind border, Haldana border on NH-44 and near Kundli border— to stop the farmers’ entry into Sonepat district. Apart from this, the Panipat police have made elaborate arrangements in the district to stop the farmers’ movements towards Delhi.

The Deputy Commissioner has appointed 22 Duty Magistrates to deal with any untoward situation and two Duty Magistrates at the Gohana and Sonepat railway stations. Similarly, in Panipat, the Police Department has also made adequate arrangements for stopping the farmers, within one hour of getting information about the movement of the farmers from the Shambhu border.

Regular mock drills underway

In view of the farmers’‘Dilli Chalo’ call, the Delhi Police also began preparations at Singhola village in Delhi. The Delhi Police have placed heavy concrete blocks and iron barricades there to stop the farmers.

Commissioner of Police B Satheesh Balan visited the Haldana border (Panipat-Sonepat border) to review the arrangements made by the police teams for stopping the farmers and held a meeting there with the police officials. Panipat SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat was also present during the meeting.

Two companies of the Border Security Forces (BSF) have been deployed in Gannaur at the Haldana border. Manoj Kumar, DC, Sonepat, said all machineries — JCBs, hydra, cemented boulders, hydra and other mechanisms— had been placed on all three district borders— the Haldana border on NH-44, Gohana-Jind border and Singhu border— in Delhi. “We have also made a traffic diversion plan in view of farmers’ movement towards Delhi, but it will be implemented on the conditions that unfolds in the next two days,” the DC said.

Apart from this, the Duty Magistrates have been appointed to deal with all untoward situations and also for the railway stations in the district. There is also a ban on open sale of diesel/petrol. The Sonepat DC has also banned the open sale of diesel and petrol on February 12 and 13. He said only 10 litre diesel could be filled in a tractor.
