Park to come up on 9 acres near canal in Yamunanagar

The Municipal Corporation Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) will develop a park on about nine acres of vacant land on the banks of Western Yamuna Canal near Hamida head here. The civic body will spend Rs 6.13 crore on the project.

A few years ago, the site was being used as a dump. However, the MCYJ authorities stopped the agency assigned the work of collecting waste from dumping it near the canal.

To have walking track, open air gym

The Rs 6.13-crore project will beautify site near Hamida head.

Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha said a 1.8-metre-wide walking track of about 2 km would be laid at the upcoming park. He said besides developing a playground, swings would also be installed for children in this park.

“Four huts will also be built at this park for visitors to sit in the shade. The park will have a green and fragrant environment. It will have an open air gym, high mast lights, a guard room, drinking water facilities and two public conveniences for men and women each,” said Sinha.

While garbage was being dumped at the site earlier, people of the area had also started encroaching on the land, prompting the civic body to take a corrective action.

As per the detailed project report prepared by the Municipal Corporation, a 5-ft-high wall will be built to prevent encroachments from the old Hamida side.

“After filling this land with soil, the construction work will be started. Landscaping will be done. Green grass will be planted across the park,” said the MC Commissioner.

He said there would be a beautiful lighting arrangement in the park, so that people could walk and exercise even at night and in the early morning hours.

The old Hamida area does not have any such big park. The project would not only beautify the area but also provide people with a place to enjoy the cool breeze in summer as the site is situated on the banks of canal.
