Despite strictness, many residents are not bothered about complying with the traffic rules. They neither hesitate to park their vehicles in unauthorised places nor care to install high security registration plate on their vehicles. Even, they ride two-wheelers without wearing a helmet.

It has come to the fore in the analysis of traffic challans issued by the district police in November that 42 per cent of the challans belong to wrong-side parking, vehicles without high security registration plate and driving without a helmet.

As per official information, the police issued a total 3,950 challans last month in the district for the violation of traffic rules. Among these, 797 challans pertained to vehicles without high security registration plate, 500 driving without a helmet and 348 were for parking of vehicles in unauthorised places.

Besides them, 389 challans were issued for triple driving, 323 for changing the lane against traffic rules, 156 for driving without a seat belt, 92 for drunk driving, 81 for using black film on window, 29 for modifying bullet silencers, 17 for using mobile phone while driving and seven for overspeeding. A total of 250 vehicles were impounded in November and a total fine of Rs 86.50 lakh was imposed on the violators.

Naresh Chauhan, an advocate, said parking of vehicles at unauthorised places was one of the major causes behind traffic congestion and road mishap in Rewari town. People did not hesitate to park their vehicles alongside the road even in crowded places. The police should deal strictly with those who park their vehicles on the wrong side. Besides, encroachments should also be removed so as to decongest the roads for smooth flow of vehicular traffic, he added.

Meanwhile, Rewari SP Gaurav Rajpurohit said all steps were being taken to prevent road mishaps in the district for which people were being made aware of road safety and challans were also being issued for the violations of traffic rules in the district.

He appealed to the people to follow the traffic rules and save lives. He also warned those who had modified their bullet silences stating that at present, only challans were issued otherwise there was also a provision for the registration of a case for it.

The SP asked the people to note down the number and take pictures of those vehicles using black film or bullet bikes with modified silencers. “Send the pictures and number of such vehicles to the SHO (traffic)’s cellphone to ensure that action is taken against such vehicles. Identity of the information sender will be kept secret,” he added.
