To discourage commuters from stopping vehicles on a river bridge in Kurukshetra and enhance safety of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) depot in Ambala Cantonment, the National Highways Authority of India has started installing view cutters on bridge and flyover, respectively.
As per information, the NHAI is using a view cutter for Markanda river in Shahabad to discourage people from littering in the water body and getting pictures clicked after stopping their vehicles on the bridge. A senior official in the NHAI said, “The NHAI uses view cutters to enhance safety of government establishments that are located along the highway and if their premises are visible from a flyover or a bridge. View cutters are also used to stop people from littering in rivers.”
He said, “Instructions have been received to install view cutters on Markanda River as people throw polybags containing different items while travelling on the highway. Vehicles parked on a two-lane bridge pose a danger to commuters. View cutters can prevent accidents and ensure that rivers are not polluted.”
“To enhance safety and make sure that no untoward incident takes place at the IOCL depot in Ambala Cantonment, some view cutters have been installed for testing. Soon the complete view of the depot from the flyover will be blocked,” he said.
Earlier, view cutters were installed on a flyover near government establishments at Gharaunda in Karnal district on the NH-44. An amount of Rs 2 crore would be spent on installing view cutters in Shahabad and Ambala.
