On the call of the state executive body of the Patwar and Kanungo Association, patwaris and kanungos protested in Sector 12. They handed over a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh for the Revenue Minister. They demanded withdrawal of a list issued by the government that allegedly showed patwaris as corrupt without following proper legal and constitutional procedures.
Association president Padam Kumar said the government was defaming patwaris by declaring them corrupt without any investigation. “This step is tarnishing image of patwaris and the department and causing irreparable damage,” he said.
He said in protest, patwaris across the state would wear black bands while working tehsils for three days and refuse to handle additional assignments.
Sushil Gurjar, district president, Sarv Karamchari Sangh, expressed solidarity with patwaris and criticised the government for unfairly targeting employees to gain public favour. “Employees will not tolerate being defamed without reason. If the government fails to withdraw list, workers from across Haryana will join patwaris in protest,” Gurjar warned.
Work disrupted at Patwar Bhawan in Sirsa
Patwaris in the city staged a protest on Monday under the banner of the Patwari and Kanungo Union, expressing their anger over the release of a list labelling some of their colleagues as corrupt. The demonstration, held at the Mini Secretariat, brought work at the Patwar Bhawan to a complete halt. Tasks such as issuing property records and training new patwaris were disrupted for hours.
Following protest, the union submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through the district administration. Patwari and Kanungo Union district president Labh Singh condemned the corruption list, while alleging it was prepared by the CID. He called it a defamatory move against patwaris and demanded withdrawal of the list within three days, along with action against those responsible for its release.
Labh Singh warned that if their demands were not met, the union would escalate the agitation as directed by the state executive. He said the list tarnished image of the entire patwari community and would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The protest witnessed participation of patwaris from across the district. Essential revenue-related services resumed only after the protest ended, leaving residents waiting for their issues to be addressed.
Protest in Sonepat, Panipat over list
Enraged over the list of patwaris for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices, which went viral on social media, members of the Patwari Association staged protests in Panipat and Sonepat today.
Patwaris said they would wear black badges while at work for three days in continuation of their protest.
Notably, a list of at least 370 patwaris went viral on social media in which they were alleged for involvement in corrupt practices. There were nine patwaris of Panipat and 41 patwaris of Sonepat who were in the corruption list.
Patwaris under the banner of the Revenue Patwar and Kanungo Association, Haryana, affiliated to Haryana Sarv Karamchari Sangh on Monday gathered at the Mini Secretariat and staged a protest in Panipat. The protesters submitted a memorandum for the revenue minister through the Deputy Commissioner.
In the memorandum, patwaris stated, “All patwaris are being declared corrupt without conducting any departmental inquiry which is mandatory as per norms. The CID report in this connection is not justified. It is a direct violation of the natural law and is an unconstitutional act.”
The protesters demanded that the revenue minister should declare the list null and void. Refuting the allegations, patwaris said if anyone had doubts, a proper departmental inquiry should be conducted and legal action initiated against them. They said it was not good to defame patwaris.
In Sonepat, patwaris gathered and protested against the list. Patwaris led by district president Sunny Malik refuted the allegation of corruption and said that it was the list which not only defamed them, but also demoralised them. It was unlawful and unconstitutional, they said. Patwaris demanded revocation of the list with immediate effect.
