Peacock number dwindling in Panchkula mango orchard

Apartment owners of Suncity Parikrama request the authorities to save the wildlife habitat in the mango orchard, adjacent to Sector 20, Panchkula. The orchard is a home to the national bird, peacock and many other animals. There are countless numbers of peacocks in this orchard. It has come to the notice in the past one year that the number of peacocks has decreased, which raises concerns. We request the administration to conduct a probe against illegal activities, including any act to killing/displacing peacocks from the park. Residents of Suncity Parikrama, Panchkula

Sector 20 cries for attention

The recent spell of light rain has exposed the chinks in the preparedness of the authorities to face the fury of monsoon in Sector 20. In over a hundred multi-storeyed housing complexes, broken and choked concrete mesh on roadside gullies are in a mess, trash gets into the drain or is piled up on mesh troughs. The earth on underground drain behind Jal Vayu Vihar and other places has caved in and free rainwater flow gets blocked due to encroachment by ramps constructed outside gates by housing societies. The authorities need to take note and take action at the earliest. Lalit Bharadwaj, Panchkula
